The Quattuor series by Craig Tice covers each of the major brainwave rhythms, beta, alpha, theta and delta. A session length of 30 minutes has been chosen to provide optimum transition to the desired state, ample time to make use of the state and an orderly return to normal consciousness.

Each session begins by stepping above and below the target before at 8 minutes into the session. This tends to engage the brain at whatever dominant state it may be in prior to the session and guide it to the target state.

The target frequency in each case is the middle of the particular band. Apart from Aer all step back to a normal consciousness from 25 minutes to the end at 30 minutes. Aer continues at target to the end. Each session contains a primary central beat plus gentle bracketing beats which sweep left and right.

Focusing on the central beat whilst minimising awareness of the bracketing beats will assure an experience appropriate to the band. Appropriate noise and ambiance accompany the primary stimulus. Subtle gamma frequencies enhance focus and increase the likelihood of recalling elements of the target state, particularly from the theta and delta states.

The visual stimulus follows the primary beat reinforcing the audio while brightness and phase shifts provide a constantly changing kaleidoscope of patterns and colours. The visuals are most effective when the eyes are allowed to defocus (infinity focus) and critical attention to the imagery is avoided, although just enjoying the imagery is an experience in itself. The visuals can be used independently of the audio.
